The Most Tragic Church Excommunication in 100 Years!

"Has Prayer Been Excommunicated?"

If you study the New Testament carefully, you will find that when the early church assembled, they were often engaged in one particular activity—prayer.  The Bible says that “they continued steadfastly...in prayers” (Acts 2:42).  In Acts Chapter 12, the Bible says, “many were gathered together praying” (Verse 12).  The Bible says, the Apostles gave themselves “continually to prayer” (Acts 6:4).

Where did the early church learn the importance of prayer to God?  From our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  If you study the Gospels carefully, you will see that the Lord Jesus Christ is portrayed as a Man of prayer.  At times He would spend entire nights in prayer.  If the incarnate Son of God felt it important to make prayer to God a priority, how much more should it be a priority in our lives?

We need to ask ourselves:  Where has prayer gone in the assemblies of our day?  Sure, we have scheduled a few moments of “prayer” within the agenda of our ritualistic worship services, but when is the last time your church gathered to pray?

Lack of prayer indicates a lack of faith in God.  After all, if you believe in something, it will be reflected in the way that you live.  "Faith" that is not acted upon in one's life is dead faith (James 2:17).  So, consider:  If we really believed that God works through the prayers of His people - would we not be more prayerful?  Sadly, we believe ourselves to be self-sufficient.  We are too proud to bow our head before the Living God.  Our current faithless and prayerless state brings to mind the question of Jesus - “When the Son of man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?”  I believe He will; however, it is an alarming question to consider...
