When I am witnessing to individuals, what are the key elements of the message that I need to present?

When presenting the Gospel of Christ, we must always remember that the one who is saved is the one who hears and understands (Matthew 13:23).  We, as the ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:18-20), have been charged with teaching the truth (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Timothy 2:24-26).  I believe the Bible teaches that there are three key elements in the Gospel message through which a person receives Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

First, is our SIN against God (1 Corinthians 15:3).  In order for a person to see their need for a Savior they must understand why a Savior is necessary.  If a person does not understand that they are sinners by nature, and that they have violated God’s law, the judgment God has declared upon mankind will seem harsh and cruel.  So, share with them about their sin against God and rely upon the Holy Spirit to awaken them to their need (John 16:8).

Second, share with them about the JUDGMENT of God—the penalty God has declared for our sin against Him (the Lake of Fire).  If you commit a crime in civil law, but there is no penalty—there is no reason to seek pardon (Acts 17:30-31).  Likewise, it is necessary for individuals to understand that God is the Righteous Judge and He will ensure that no transgression will go unpunished.  Therefore, we all need pardon.

And finally, share with them that JESUS has purchased their pardon.  When Jesus suffered and died upon the cross, He was paying the penalty that you and I deserve because of our sin.  His payment was accepted and He is risen from the dead.  God has promised that if we will repent and trust in the risen Christ—we will be forgiven and will receive eternal life (John 3:36).
