Winning Souls For Christ
The fruit of the righteous
is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Proverbs 11:30
What does it mean to "win" a soul? The word "winneth" is the same word that would be used to describe an Army's conquest of a city. Have you ever considered the similarities? When an army seeks to take a city, the commander must consider when, where, and how to strike. Plus, taking a city generally involves extended battle. At times it will be most beneficial to sit back patiently in the trenches. At other times, the battle will call for a frontal assault. Then, there may be occasions when it would be diligent to seek to win the “hearts and minds” of the enemy by showing good will towards the citizens of the city.
Friends, it is very similar in soul-winning. There is no one means to win people to Jesus. At times it will be most beneficial to sit back patiently in the trenches of intercessory prayer. At other times, the battle will call for a frontal assault with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Then, there will be occasions when we should simply do good unto the individual in the name of Jesus.
These are the weapons of our warfare: intercessory prayer, sacrificial love, and the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Employ them wisely and diligently. Remember that ultimately the battle is the Lord's - He gives the increase. Continue steadfast—dear soldier. When the city is won, the King will be pleased and Heaven will rejoice.
